Books I’ve read out of simple interest or the desire to learn something new.
Beyond Religion: Ethics for a Whole World – The Dalai Lama
An interesting book that contains a lot of food for thought, and some good tips on mindfulness that can easily be put into practice.
On Writing – A Memoir of the Craft – Stephen King
A very informative book, that contains a lot of helpful advice that anyone can use to improve the quality of their writing.
The 4 Disciplines of Execution – McChesney, Covey, and Huling
A very useful system to help people and organizations achieve their goals. Concepts such as “WIGs” and “the whirlwind” can help you find common ground and set effective goals. Well worth a read if you have to lead others,
Meditation and Mindfulness – Andy Puddicombe
Have been using Headspace for a while, and was quite pleased to find Andy had written a book. It covers numerous techniques that can really help you relax and get your mind in order, or at least unclutter it a little.
The Passion Manifesto – Thibaut Meurisse
Decided it was time to think about what I really want to do with myself. It was very thought provoking, and gave me a lot of ideas to work on. This one is still in progress.
Deep Work – Cal Newport
Just finished reading it, and it was pretty interesting. Still sorting out what concepts from it I want to use, but the idea of focusing on only a few important things at any time sounds pretty good to me. After all, translation and multi-tasking do not really fit together anyway.
